There may have been little cause to celebrate but the Champagne was still flowing as York Hearts got season 2011/11 underway.
Five from York headed north for Hearts' opening SPL game of the season, at home to St Johnstone, and while the match itself was uninspiring, the trip was an enjoyable one.
Cliff Lawrie, Sam Outing, Terence Tate (pictured above), Gavin Aitchison and Helen Leeming boarded the 09:06 from York to Edinburgh in high spirits, passing the time with a combination of beer, crosswords and renewed optimism for the season ahead.
The game was a bit of an anticlimax. Hearts were the better side throughout without ever truly dominating and although Callum Elliot got the opener on 44 minutes, it was cancelled out within seconds of the restart.
A post-match trip to the Gorgie Fish Bar was followed by a more eventful train trip home though, capped off when a group of Eyemouth's finest donated a bottle of rose Champagne to our table. Cue much merriment at the Hearts table!
