York Hearts FC get beer "goggles"

Thursday night 7,s hauled themselves up to fourth in the table with a convincing 13-5 thrashing of Deportevo-lack-of-talent at the Roko Stadium on Thursday. With there opponents starting with only 5 players, YHFC failed to take advantage in the early stages and were pegged back by Deportivo on a few occasions before stamping their authority on the game. The scoreline could have been far more impressive but for some wayward finnishing from all positions on the pitch, we must have had 70 shots on goal!!! Sammy Outing led the line with 4 goals, Daddy Bedo pitched in with another 4 including a rasping volly set up by Kev Jones after a great move, Ghandi scored 2, Stampy and Bruno 1 each and an own goal that Ghandi tried to claim even though he was miles away from the ball!!! Ghandi was the Man Of The Match.
Back at the White Horse, the weekly forfiet was to be waring singlets and swimming goggles which was a sight for some sore eyes as the regulars thought we had lost our marbles. God help them next week when we have to ware pyjamas for our post match drink and curry.

A much more "polished" performance

York Hearts FC turned dissapointment into joy last night when Burton Lane Phoenix, obviously worried about getting a spanking, failed to turn up. "Fortunately" Polska FC having just finnished a game, sportingly agreed to play us so Ibby,s thoughts of an early beer were dashed!!! Having been severely beaten last week by the Pols, not being humiliated was high on the agenda but we need not have worried. YHFC took the game by the scruff of the neck early on and cruised into a 2-0 lead. Some great passing, high quality defending and boundless energy were the order of the day. (Next week lads its all down the Horse for three pints and cheesy chips before the game) Half time saw the Pols with a 4-3 lead as they got the measure of a fighting Hearts team, only stunning finnishing giving them the edge. Tired legs in the second half kept going, the boys did us proud and the game ended with an 8-3 defeat, a great result against a very good team. There were 9 very good performances out there but the MOM award went to "cheesy chips" Ghandi.
Back at HQ, the forfiet was to bring a bucket of sand and a spade!!!!!!!! 3 fines were collected and if there was a prize for the best, then Sammy Outing would have won it hands down. Dont forget next weeks as decided by Ghandi, you have to wear a singlet (vest type thing) and swimming goggles to the pub.
The team was, Rich Jono, Bruno, Calum, Stampy, Kev, Gavstro, Ghandi, Ninja and Sam.

Cup final heart-ache for Jambos

York Hearts came within a whisker of collecting their first silverware on Saturday, when they made it to the York Nomads Society Cup Final, only to go down 1-0.

The Jambos were taking part in the Keith Walwyn Tournament at Huntington, played in memory of the legendary, late York City striker.

Having found themselves in the most difficult group, Hearts slumped to two early defeats but bounced back to finish mid-table, thus entering the middle of three competitions - the YNS Cup.

The quarter final saw Hearts take on Borussia Teeth, in a tense and evenly-matched affair. The maroons went 1-0 up mid-way through the ten-minute match, but Borussia levelled with just moments left, sending the match to penalties. After each side had scored their first three, Tommy O pulled off a great save and Callum Beattie netted to send Hearts into the semis, where they met Huntington Rejects.

Hearts were the better side from the boff, and got a deserved win when Sam nodded in a corner from Daz Catanach.

The final saw Hearts up against Bearwood Villa, of Birmingham. Hearts put up a good show, but Villa had more clear-cut chances, and deserved their 1-0 win, having also seen two shots rattle the crossbar.

A good show from all concerned, and a first medal for the YHSC players. Hopefully next year it will be a winners' one.

The squad was: Tommy Outing, Callum Beattie, Gav Anderson, Martin Anderson, Daz Catanach, Alex Bedingham., Sam Outing.

Bedo was Hearts' top scorer, while Callum was named Hearts man of the tournament.

Not a "Polished" performance

YHFC were all but humiliated by a team of Poles at the Roko Stadium last night. A crushing 14-0 defeat was a fair result by a team who were fitter, stronger and better than the Jambos. Having a slightly depleated side didn,t help but the result would not have been much different if a full squad had been available. It was not all doom and gloom, there were some great performances on the pitch, with Gavstro Aitchison and Kev Jones putting in a gritty performance and Rich Jono putting in a second MOM performance on the trott with another string of outstanding saves.
After the game saw why YHFC are well regarded at Roko when even after a thumping like that, the team went on to play a five-a-side match because a team hadn,t turned up, well done lads!!
The team was Rich Jono, Stampy, Bruno, Ninja, Droopy Drawers, Barcs, Kev, Ghandi and Gavstro. The MOM was the outstanding Rich Jono.
Oh, and afterwards we had beer and curry!!!!!!!!!

YHFC STUMBLE AFTER GOOD START

YHFC 7,s struggled to get into their second game of the season when they went down 6-2 against Network Rail at the Roko Stadium last night. A poor start had them 4-0 down within 15 minutes and a weary squad trudged off to a half time pep talk and reminder that the they would be in the pub in 45 minutes at 5-0. Nothing seemed to go the Jambo,s way and if it wasn,t for some tough tackling and heroic goalkeeping it could have been a lot worse.
With a smile back on their faces (thinking of the White Horse in 45 mins) the York Jambo,s started the second half almost as badly as the first!!! Rich Jono in goal was in world class form and pulled off 4 or 5 unbelievable saves early on. Some great blocking challenges and gritty defending seemed to galvanise the team and some free flowing football followed. Ghandi continued with his free scoring form to pull one back and then as happens with London buses, another goal from Callum came along with a blockbuster from 4 yards out. The second half was won 2-1 and in the last 10 minutes Network Rail were out on their feet and The Jambo,s could easily of had another couple of goals but for their keeper. To say we were fitter than them boads well for next week and for the 10k run in aid of cancer research that even after major shaming, some Jambo,s still haven,t signed up for.
Rich Jono was the outstanding Man Of The Match. Well done Rich.
The team was Rich Jono, Bruno, Ninja, Stampy, Ghandi, Barcs, Droopy Drawers, Furry and Kev.

Victory at last for battling Hearts

Good things do indeed come to those who wait.
After 13 unsuccesful attempts, York Hearts finally got their first win of the season in the Football Mundial Championship last night, thanks to an excellent team performance against White Magic.
The Jambos entered the match anchored to the foot of the table, but two first-half goals from lone striker Sam Outing and a vintage display of passing football all over the park gave Hearts a thoroughly deserved 2-0 win that lifted them off the bottom.
Outing nearly grabbed a hat-trick in the dying minutes, but his left foot drive was touched on to the outside of the post.
The Hearts squad was: T. Outing; Aitchison; Beattie; Carroll; Ong; S. Outing.
Goalscorer Sam was named man of the match.
The Thursday team are back in action tomorrow night, against Network Rail.
