Elvington v York Hearts
York Hearts meet Elvington Floorcraft at Huntington Tuesday. Can all players please advise Sam Outing whether or not they are available. As ever, all spectators welcome. Kick-off is 9pm.
Less said the better...
Cheers to all those who made it to the White Horse on Wednesday for the Hearts v Rangers game. Say no more.
Infamy infamy, they've all got it infamy (or us)
York Hearts hit the headlines today, when the club's 2006/07 Player of the Year presentation was featured in the Edinburgh Evening News.
The story was printed on the back page of the printed version of the paper, and also on its website.
As previously reported here, our PoTY award for last season went to Saulius Mikoliunas - but the decision has not been well received by the Jambos masses, and YHSC has come in for some (mostly lighthearted) stick both on the Evening News website and on Jambos Kickback.
Undeterred though, we're sticking by our decision. Miko comes in for far more abuse than he really deserves, and - even leaving aside his contributions on the pitch -, he deserves recognition for his on-the-record contempt for the wee team.

Historical Football Kits
Should anyone be interested in some historical information on HMFC or would just like to view the various Kits that the Club has played in then there is an excellent website available (link below).
For some of our older members this may bring back some happy memories.

Stalemate
Despite an injury list longer than the Forth Road Bridge, York Hearts FC recorded a fine 0-0 draw against Real Nexus last night at a blustery Huntington.
In an exciting and somewhat bruising cup tie, YHFC outplayed their opponents to put their first point on the board in the Cup Group stage.
There were fine performances from all who played, reflected by the fact that the Man of the Match award was split between Barclay Ong and Stu Martel.
With Ibby "the cat" Dall stepping in between the sticks and a reshuffled defence of Steve Carroll and Stu Martel, Real Nexus were limited to a handful of attempts at goal. The YHFC midfield of Alex "Furry Phenomenom" Beddingham and Adam "Bruno" Burnett worked tirelessly to assist the defence and also support joint MOM Barclay Ong in attack. With Calum Beattie and Liam playing support roles in the second half, the team really deserved more than the 1 point they picked up.
We are left to wonder whether all 3 pts would have been taken had regulars Aitchison, Outing, Hardie and Johnston been available for selection.
Next Game - Tues 4th March 9pm v Elvington Floorcraft

Nexus Next
York Hearts FC return to cup duty tomorrow night, when they take on Real Nexus.
Nexus are currently seventh in League One, but the Jambos face a selection crisis with several first-team regulars struggling or unavailable.
Gavstro Aitchison is likely to be out with a back injury, while Sam "Kermit" Outing has pulled a calf.
Adam "Bruno" Burnett and Alan "Ninja" Hardie are also both unavailable, according to Outing.
With such a depleted squad, club chairman and veteran Ian "Walter Kidd" Warner may come out of retirement for the Jambos. If he does so, it will be his first match since the Coronation Cup of 1953.
Kick-off tomorrow is 9pm. Any spectators welcome.

Next Trip
We are proposing that our next trip to Tynecastle will be for the match on Saturday 29th March against Dundee United. This will be Hearts last home game before the split and should be a match of some importance as we try to secure a top 6 finish. We are looking at various transport options for this match with the train currently being the favourite. If we book early enough then the cost of a return ticket should be in the region of £20 - £25. Some members have expressed a wish to stay in Edinburgh for the evening and we are currently looking at options for that also.
Would all members wishing to travel please contact Gavin Aitchison at the e mail address below expressing the number of tickets, preferred mode of transport and whether an overnight stay in Edinburgh would be of interest.

Hearts on TV
Hearts next home fixture against Rangers is scheduled to be shown on Setanta Sports on Wed 27th Feb with a 7.45pm KO. As usual we will be meeting in the White Horse on Bootham to watch the match. All members and non-members welcome.
No Football Tonight
There will be no match for York Hearts FC this evening due to another bye week. There will be one postponed match to make up but as yet no date has been given by Football Mundial regarding this. Details to follow once known.

Hampden Misery
Over a week has now passed since the semi final of the CIS Cup. At a wet and windy National Stadium, Hearts fell foul, once again, to some dubious officiating, resulting in a 2 nil defeat to Rangers. A good first half performance was undone when the referee allowed Barry Ferguson to handle the ball before slotting it into the net for the opener. From that point on Hearts did not seem to rise to the challenge and despite throwing on substitutes never managed to turn things around. It was a disappointing team performance and one that left the travelling York Hearts support both frustrated and downhearted.
A total of 16 members and non members made the trip on what was one of the worst days of the year thus far in terms of weather. The 16 hardy souls made their way to Hampden via various forms of transport. 7 decided to go by train and take in an overnight stay in Glasgow, 7 travelled by car in order to return to York straight after the match and 2 travelled through from Edinburgh on the Orwell Hearts Supporters Club bus.
In typical YHSC fashion the various journeys did not pass without incident. Those fortunate enough to have chosen the train option travelled in comfort and enjoyed the trip to Glasgow enjoying beer, poker and many a laugh. Those unfortunate enough to have chosen the car option faced deteriorating weather, difficult driving conditions and poor navigational skills. Despite leaving at different times BOTH cars managed to miss the junction at Scotch Corner ensuring the long journey North was made that little bit longer. It is incidents like this that have prompted the issuing of an "Idiot Tax", which will no doubt benefit club funds immensely. These incidents did, however, provide some hilarity that evening when the stories were retold when everyone finally got together for a pre match beer just outside Hampden.
The trip also brought about a couple of other "Golden Moments", none more so than Brian ('Aaarold) Dall standing outside Hampden for an hour and a half in the wind and rain whilst waiting for his father Davey (Albert) Dall to arrive from Edinburgh on one of the Orwell buses. Despite 'Aaarold having Davey's match ticket the rest of the members found it rather strange that with 20 mins of the first half gone Davey arrived at his seat without 'Aaarold. When asked as to where his son was was Davey's response was that of "I've no idea - I thought he would have been in here already". Just how Davey managed the feat of procuring entrance and getting to his actual designated seat was a bit of mystery to most but it was revealed later that someone had given him a ticket to get in and that 'Aaarlod had already advised him of his seat number!! Thankfully mobile phones are around and a quick call to 'Aaarlols advising him of the situation left him speechless (well not quite) and he made his way into the ground to meet up with the rest of us. The general consensus amongst us is that 'Aaarold's late entry into the match actually cost us the game. With a record of never having seen Hearts lose since 1976 we were expecting the good luck charm to be the defining factor during the evening. It was not to be.....
Sam (Kermit) Outing also picked up a new nickname that evening after foolishly divulging his fear of frogs to fellow members. Kermit may well have to be on his toes in the near future....there may be a few malicious members about!!!!
As always during a YHSC trip to Scotland food is high on the Agenda. Prior to the match the local chippy did a roaring trade with the usual order of Haggis Supper being a firm favourite. Gav (Greedy Guts) Aitchison steadfastly fought to protect his supper from prying hands with lightning fast movements which would have been better on the pitch itself. For those who had travelled by train the pre match meal was postponed as a visit to a Glasgow Curry House and the promise of a few beers post match was on their menu. A fantastic meal followed after the match but unfortunately Ian (Temperance Society) Warner decided to take the curry afficienadios to what we believe must be the only Curry House in Glasgow that did not have a license to sell alcohol. Much berating followed as I am sure you can imagine.
All in all another good trip despite the result and it was rounded off nicely when YHSC yet again managed to get a mention on Radio 5's 606 show post match. Izzy needs to become an honorary member at this rate.
Thanks to all who travelled and especially to those who drove the cars in what was truely dreadful conditions particularly during the return journey. I'm already looking forward to the next one..........

A Bit of a Dampener
At a rain soaked Huntington last night, York Hearts FC took to the field bouyed by 2 wins on the bounce. Confidence was high as they set out to achieve a third straight victory and one which would secure Championship football again next season.
However, despite a good all round team performance and plenty of posession, a controversial decision by the match referee ensured that the team left the pitch empty handed.
After a slow start to the game York Hearts eventually found their rhythm and played well enough to earn a deserved 0-0 half time scorline. The second half saw the team play with more fluency and some solid defending ensured that they were always in contention and relatively untroubled by their opponents. Whilst never really looking like matching the 5 goals of the previous week the team were playing well enough to deserve a point and perhaps snatch a winner.
Midway through the half all this changed when Carpetright played a long ball through the middle to their striker. Steve Carroll tracked back and matched the forward for pace. He was about to get a foot in to halt the attack when he was unconditionally knocked off the challenge by the forward. As Yorks Hearts stopped play fully expecting the foul to be awarded, they watched in disbelief as the forward went on to knock the ball into the net without any call from the match official. Desipte protests from all, the goal stood with the match official incredibly stating that no contact had been made.
Despite this setback York Hearts continued to press for the equaliser but unfortunately time ran out and the players left the field somewhat bemused and angry at the loss of the points. However, it was a good performance in difficult conditions and the team remain positive that results and decisions will one day go their way.
Final Score: York Hearts 0-1 Carpetright
Squad: Outing, Beattie, Aitchison, Beddingham, Carroll, Dall, Johnston, Burnett, Ong
