What a night...

TWO heroes of yesteryear and one current player were among almost 70 guests, as York Hearts held its second annual function last night.
Jambos, fellow Scots, friends and relatives gathered at the Park Inn Hotel in North Street, for the second York Hearts St Andrew’s Night Celebration.
The club was delighted to welcome back legendary Hearts goalkeeper Henry Smith and his wife Lynn, as well as former Hearts and York City star (and York Hearts President) Roy Kay with his wife Linda.
We were also thrilled to be joined by Hearts’ on-loan Danish striker Mike Tullberg and his girlfriend Thea, who travelled down from Edinburgh specially.
The evening began with drinks in the Riverside suite bar, before guests moved through to the dining room for a meal of haggis, neeps and tatties followed by apple pie and coffees, while also trying their hand at the quiz.
We then moved on to the disco, before breaking for the raffle and auction. We had three top auction lots, thanks to fantastic generosity from Roy Kay, Henry Smith and Hearts.
From HMFC, we had two directors’ box passes, plus pre and post match drinks, for Hearts v Aberdeen next February 14. Ian Warner won the bidding for those, with a final bid of £150. Ian also topped the bidding for Henry’s lot – an original Scotland goalkeeper shirt worn by Henry in 1988, and signed by the current Hearts squad. That went for £190.
The most talked-about lot of the night was the shirt Roy wore in the 1976 Scottish Cup Final, when Hearts met Rangers. After some fierce bidding, it finally went for £360 to White Horse landlord Dan Murphy, who will be framing it for display in the pub for all to see.
YHSC's chief charity fundraiser Alex Bedginham also collected a cheque for the money raised in last month's sponsored run for Cancer Research. Proceeds from the auction and raffle were also split between YHSC and Cancer Research, meaning we have now raised more than £3,000 for the charity so far this season.
Presentations were made to the guests of honour, with specially-engraved tankards for the players and bouquets for Lynn, Linda and Thea, before the disco resumed and the Jambos danced the night away.
We want to say a massive thank you to Roy and Linda, Henry and Lynn, Mike and Thea, HMFC, staff at the Park Inn and everyone else who donated auction lots or raffle prizes, including Brigantes, Bombay Spice and the White Horse.
