A winning start, on home soil.....

York Hearts made the trip down to Rotherham on Saturday, as Hearts played in Yorkshire for the first time in seven years.

Holidays and work commitments sadly prevented a few going, but ten of us made it to the New York Stadium, The Millers' brand new home.

While most Jambos faced an early start up in Scotland, we enjoyed a more leisurely jaunt over the South Yorkshire border.

We started the day at Coopers at York Station (not by choice - the York Tap was closed!) then headed south on the 1034 to Doncaster, then on to Rotherham.

The game was typically-dire pre-season fare, but the sing-song was good fun and we had a few beers in The Rhinoceros in the town centre. It was particularly pleasing to have two of our new members making the trip, hopefully the first of many this season, and also to recruit another newbie, who we met by chance at York Station.

The only downer was that we could not take the York Hearts flag (pictured above, after the game) into the ground, due to us not having a fire safety certificate. Apparently this is stadium policy and ours was among several that had to be left at reception. We're looking into how to obtain a certificate, to prevent such problems in future.

Reliving the magic!

York Hearts members gathered last night for the club's belated cup-winning social.

The night began at 19.02 at The (Maroon and) White Horse, with the juke box playing cup-final themed songs, including Baby Give It Up by KC and The Sunshine Band; Five to One by The Doors; Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes; Rudie Can't Fail by The Clash.

We relived the joy of the cup final there with a few beers then continued round various York pubs with tenuous Hearts links....

"The Roman Baths" became "The Romanov Baths", "VJ's Art Bar" became the "Victorious Jambos Hearts Bar", "All Bar One" became "Darren Barr Five One", "Harkers" became "Hearts-ers" etc.

Thanks to all who turned up. Embarrassing photos will no doubt surface on Facebook soon!
