A Battling Victory

YHFC's crunch league match against Jetscreen took place last evening at a hot and humid Clifton Moor. It wasn't just the temperature that was hot either. A victory for the Jambo's would consolidate their league position and the whole team were fired up for the match. After an acrimonious affair when the teams last met, this one was expected to be similar, however, it was not quite the case. Having been chastised by the League over their behaviour, a new, calmer Jetscreen took the field and behaved in a sporting manner throughout.

An exciting evening's football ensued and as it turned out YHFC were victorious in a 7 goal thriller. The 4th win of the league campaign saw the Blackjacks playing some wonderful high tempo football and with their customary battling spirit, this proved just enough to edge a 4-3 victory. Goals from Ibby, Barclay, Outing and Stampie were enough to secure the victory.

3 games remain in the season and safety all but secured. A resounding result!

Next Up - It's a Fighting Chance

Apologies to all for no match report on last week's 7's match against Network Rail. This reporter was still shocked at the fact that York Hearts never got started in the game and has decided after some contemplation that it was the early 6pm KO that was at fault. For those unaware of the result it was a 15-4 defeat to a team we had beaten 8-0 earlier in the season (albeit they were not playing at the time!!!).
Moving on..........................Thursday 29th May at Clifton Moore will see York Hearts take on Jetscreen. What more has to be said. Having beat them in our first match of the season it would be fitting to see us win once more against a team who are noted as being the Leeds of the 70's in terms of physical and verbal abuse.
Lets all get together and get along to Clifton to support the Jambos in a match which is sure to be a thriller....or a killer......

And they're off...

More than 20 Jambos headed to York Racecourse on Friday, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Hearts' 1998 Scottish Cup win.

The celebratory raceday saw York Hearts members and their guests head to Knavesmire en masse, for the final day of the May Festival.

The day began with a pub buffet at the Ackhorne in St Martin's Lane, where the group also watched a re-run of the 98 final on DVD.

From there it was on to the course, to celebrate the anniversary in style.

Gav Anderson (above left) proved the star / jammy git of the day, with a series of winners earning him a profit of £125 for the day. Sam Outing (above right) made £75, while Jackie McCafferty and Gavin Aitchison also ended the day up.

The others were left to curse their misfortune, in no small part thanks to Badger who adamantly tipped Wyatt Earp in the 4.20pm. It's due to pass the finishing post sometime this evening.

As the clock ticked round to 4.50pm, making it ten years to the minute since we'd won the cup, the increasingly inebriated group broke into increasingly incoherent song, before heading off into town to continue the celebrations long into the night.

When the Hearts went up to lift the Scottish Cup, we were there! We were there!

York Hearts are in cup action tomorrow night, when they take on Italic at Huntington.
The game kicks off at 9.30pm. All spectators welcome. Can players please tell Sam whether or not they are available.

The Thursday team went down 11-5 to Viceroy last week.

Stalemate for Jambos

York Hearts' Tuesday team recorded their third goal-less draw of the season this week, against O'Neills at Huntington.
The first half was largely uneventful, with chances at a premium. Steve Carroll came agonisingly close for Hearts after cutting in from the left, but his rasping effort was turned past the post for a corner.
At the other end, Gav Aitchison did well to save a shot low down to his right.
Hearts proved more of a threat after the break and had chances to win the game late on, but could not find the net.
The squad was: Aitchison, Carroll, Ong, Catanach, Beattie, Bedingham, S. Outing.
Gav and Barclay shared the man of the match award.

In the Thursday night PlayFootball league, Hearts take on the Viceroy at 7pm. Hearts lost 8-2 in the corresponding fixture back in March.

Hearts edged out in 9-goal thriller

York Hearts fell to a 5-4 defeat in PlayFootball on Thursday night, as their up-and-down season continued.
The Jambos began brightly, and stormed into a 3-0 lead in the first half. But defensive lapses allowed Deportivo lack-of-talent to haul themselves level, before going on to take all three points.
Ibby Dall and Steve Carroll shared the man of the match award.
